My two passions in life are yoga practice and playing the piano. Throughout the last decade I have experienced the strong interweaving of these two art forms that has allowed me to achieve my goals, and most importantly find the physical ease necessary to practice for long hours without injury.

In 2012, I received the ARCT diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Toronto in piano performance. For me, playing piano is a mindfulness meditation of body, breath and sound and is dependent upon and interconnected with the practice of yoga.

The Associate of The Royal Conservatory (ARCT) diplomas for Performers and Teachers are the highest academic standings awarded by The Royal Conservatory. The ARCT diploma is respected internationally as a teaching qualification, and includes an hour long performance of memorized concert level repertoire as well as 9 co-requistite exams in music theory, analysis and history.

The practice of yoga is a perfect compliment to playing an instrument, as it offers support to bring balance to the movements and arrangement of the shoulders, lower back and hips. Iyengar Yoga is known for the therapeutic applications of yoga to the treatment of neck, shoulder, lower back and hip pain and injury.  The revolutionary use of yoga props and the intelligent selection and modification of the postures enable students of all abilities to work to their greatest potential and overcome difficulties of all kinds.

Drawing upon the wisdom of B.K.S. Iyengar, and the vast amount of work he has done in the realm of therapeutics, my aim is to facilitate deeper body awareness and healing. The great violinist Yehudi Menuhin studied with B.K.S.Iyengar from the 50’s onward and attributed the yoga teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar to giving him the stamina and vigor he sustained through his long career of over 70 years.

In this program we will explore our body as a vehicle to create music:

  • facilitating postural balance
  • therapeutic neck and shoulder practice
  • therapeutic lower back practice
  • increasing awareness of the breath

Whether you are an aspiring musician, professional musician you can be assured that I will help you find a way of practicing that meets your specific capabilities and needs.
